Frequently Asked Questions

General

  • Instant water heaters do not require pre-heating; they deliver hot water instantaneously. They are typically more compact-looking as they do not have a storage tank.
    • Single-point instant water heaters operates with a 3.3kW heating element and are best suited for individual supply points. For example, you would require two separate instant water heaters for two separate bathrooms.
    • When there is a water interruption within the household water pipeline, users experience reduced shower comfort due to lower water pressure and sudden fluctuations in water output temperature and flow rate. This leads to water wastage and increased power consumption as users continuously adjust the temperature setting to maintain the desired water output temperature.
    • The majority of Ariston instant water heaters are equipped with Constant Temperature technology feature, ensuring that the water output temperature remains stable regardless of variations in the incoming water flow rate or temperature. Read here to find out more about Constant Temperature.
    • These units typically have an average lifespan of around 3 to 5 years.

  • Storage water heaters come with an inner tank that stores hot water. These tanks are available in different capacities, ranging from 15 to 100 litres, and they require pre-heating before supplying hot water.
    • Typically, storage water heaters are capable of providing hot water to various outlets, making them well-suited for simultaneous use in multiple bathrooms and even in the kitchen. The SL2 LUX-D WI-FI and AN2 TOP WI-FI series are equipped with Titanium heating element, offering the highest protection against corrosion and scale deposits, backed by a lifetime warranty.
    • To conserve energy and prevent heat loss, there's insulation between the storage tank and the outer casing of the heater, and the inner tank can be made of stainless steel or have an enamel coating.
    • Storage water heaters come with an automatic thermostat that cuts off the power supply when the water reaches the pre-set temperature, minimizing additional electricity consumption for maintaining hot water throughout the day.
    • On average, storage water heaters have a longer lifespan, typically ranging from 5 to 7 years.

If you switch off the product by ON/Off button, the ECO function continues to maintain memory.

If you stop the electricity of the product, the ECO function continues to maintain memory for 2 hours.

Water Heaters - Performances

Formula for calculation of electricity consumption:

Electricity cost = Power (kW) x Usage Time (hr) x Electrical Tariff

The following is a simple illustration of the consumption of 2 types of heaters on the basis of 2 users.

Assumption:
User 1 & 2 – uses 5 minutes of hot water each
User 3, 4 & 5 – uses 3 minutes of hot water each
Total: 19 minutes hot water required
Electrical tariff (dated Oct – Dec 2023) – S$0.287

Electricity Consumption:
Instant water heater : 3.3kW x 19/60 x S$0.287 = S$0.300
Storage water heater : 1.5kW x 70/60 x S$0.287 = S$0.502

The above calculation does not take into consideration of other factors such as capacity of water heater, frequency of bath per user and original temperature of water in the tank.

For instant water heater, the recovery of hot water is instant.

The recovery rate for storage water heater varies according to the power of the heater.

Initial recovery rate:
a) Inlet temperature = 25 deg C
b) Bathing temperature = 42 deg C

Recovery rate gallon/hour (Small capacity – 1.5kW )
= Andris2/Andris Lux WI-FI/ Andris LUX-D WI-FI/ Andris 2 TOP WI-FI (1500 x 860) / (42-25) x 60
= 1.3 litres / min

Recovery rate gallon/hour (Bigger capacity – 2.5kW)
= Andris Slim (SL2) / PRO1 R Inox/PRO R Slim / PRO RS J (2500x 860) / (42-25) x 60
= 2.1 litres / min

The following is a simple illustration on how to size and select a proper water heater.

Assumptions:

  1. Normal bathing temperature = 40 deg C.
  2. Cold water inlet temperature = 25 deg C.
  3. Ariston maximum temperature setting = 70 deg C.

Calculation of % of hot water required when mix with cold water:
[(mixed water) – (cold water)] / [(hot water) – (cold water)]
= [40 – 25] / [70 – 25]
= 15 / 45
= 33% of mixture is hot water (for Ariston heater)

Amount of mixed water produced at temperature 40ºC:

Ariston ( 30 litres ):
33/30 = 100/x
x = 91 litres

Ariston ( 50 litres ):
33/50 = 100/x
x = 152 litres

From the sizing program, we understand that the amount of the warm water (40 deg C) produced for bathing is not only depended on the capacity of the tank but also the pre-set temperature.

Routine preventive maintenance of water heater can provide you many years of trouble-free use. Here are several points you should take note of:

  1. Keep the area around the water heater free from gasoline or other flammable or combustible materials.
  2. It is not uncommon for water heaters to generate a hissing noise during operation, even for new heaters. However, if the hissing or noise level increases substantially, contact your professional plumber or our service center, as this noise may be caused by the heating element, which requires cleaning.
  3. The purpose of the magnesium anode is to neutralize stray galvanic currents, preventing corrosion. Therefore, it is advisable to replace the magnesium anode in the ANDRIS2 / ANDRIS LUX WI-FI / Andris LUX-D WI-FI series, SL2 series, PRO R SLIM series, PRO1 R INOX series, and PRO RS J series regularly, e.g., yearly. Please call our service center for this service with a charge.

There are three safety features:

  1. Thermostat
The thermostat is the first-level safety feature, providing precise control of water temperature by the user. It stops the heating process when the desired temperature is reached.

  2. Thermal cut-out
In the event of over-heating or thermostat failure, the thermal cut-out serves as the second sensor, initiating an all-pole disconnection from the electric supply to prevent further risks.

  3. Pressure relief valve
Directly fitted in the inlet, the pressure relief valve prevents excessive pressure in the water tank. If the pressure exceeds 8 ± 0.5 bars, the valve releases pressure by depressing the spring, causing water to drip through the 4.5mm outlet. Ensure that this outlet is connected to the drainage system.

1) Thermostat is not fitted properly on the heating element?
Remove and re-fit it correctly.

2) Thermal cut-out activated?
Reset the safety device.

3) Electric switch not ON?
Ensure the electric switch is turned ON.

4) Electric heating element cut-off or short-circuited?
Replace the heating element and the gaskets.

5) No power supply?
Verify the continuity on the power supply cables and connection terminals.

2) Water temperature is too low?
Turn the thermostat to “maximum”.

1) Excessive formation of lime or scale on the heating element?
Clean the heating element.

2) Thermal effect on the current thermostat?
No action should be taken if this occurs at the end of the heating cycle. However, if it occurs at the beginning of the heating cycle, replace the thermostat."
